Over the last few months our team has been hard at work on a new version of Feed My Inbox, adding many of the most popular feature requests we hear from our customers. We've also decided on the best way to monetize the application (aka recoup server costs for the last 14 months).

We are REALLY proud of how it has come together. The official launch will be on January 9, 2010, but for now we've put together a one-page website to tell you all about it and answer some questions. Let the countdown begin!

I really, really want to support Feed My Inbox. It's made my life easier and I really appreciate that. But, I'm shocked at the pricing structure. Not the existence of pricing (again, I want to support the service), but the pricing itself.

Love your service but have just seen the pricing options for v2!
You really have to rethink these prices!

Thanks for your feedback, Joe and Jay. We're always open to it. However, the pricing is directly based on our numbers. 96% of our customers subscribe to 5 feeds or less. So this pricing structure keeps the service free for all but 4% of our current customer base.

For the 4% of customers that are subscribing to more than 5 feeds and depending on our service to provide them with a convenient RSS to Email experience every day, we think $5/month is very reasonable. Plus those customers have access to some other really great features.

We were planning on there being backlash about pricing. When a free service becomes paid or "freemium" it is inevitable. We value the feedback a great deal and are always open to changes.

However, we do believe there is a small minority of our customers that use and value the service enough to spend $5/month. Thanks again for the feedback, keep it coming.

I do believe in the $5/mo. plan (that's what I expect to buy in at), but I'm surprised that there's any other plan. I would expect there to be one paid plan -- unlimited.

Mozy charges $5.00 a month for unlimited backup. Remember the Milk charges $25.00/year for unlimited usage. Jott charges $4.00 a month for unlimited calls.

I don't want this to be seen as a negative backlash to having to pay at all. It's just the prices themselves that are shocking.

I'd agree with Joe. I'm in favor of paying for this service, and I've said so before in an email.

$5/mo is reasonable, and I can pay that. But $16/mo? $192/year? No, I can't justify that expense. Even with all the new added features (which sound wonderful), I don't feel your service is worth more than my computer's operating systems, every year.

I belong to those 4% who subscribe more than 5 feeds, 250 actually for an avid RSS feed reader like me. I like the service but 16/mo is too expensive while 5/mo is alright. I am moving away from from FMB and going back to traditional web-based readers unless FMB changes its current pricing plan.
