Launching Feed My Inbox 2.0 had many bumps today, but it's finally live. Thanks so much for your patience while the service was down most of the day.

Many more details about the site will be posted here in the coming weeks, but right now we're only going to cover the most important stuff.

Accounts have new passwords

All account passwords in the old and new system are encrypted in the database. We can't even see them. Since version 2.0 is a completely different platform with new code and so forth, we were not able to migrate over the passwords to the new database.

What's that mean? We had to reset account passwords and there are two ways to get in your account:

  1. Use the forgot your password link and the password will be reset then emailed to you. Upon logging in for the first time you will be asked to create your own new password.
  2. As I write this we are sending an email to every customer that has a Feed My Inbox account. The email will contain information about the new version along with their new account password.

Sorry about that folks, but we really had no way around this one if we wanted to keep account information 100% secure.

Enjoy the new site!

We worked extremely hard on the new website and account area. It's a great foundation for all the cool things we have planned in 2010. Go check it out!

Soo... unless I pay you $16/mnth because I have a hundred feeds, my account will die? Hello Google Reader I guess. Or FeedDemon locally. Both are free and I doubt they'll pull a bait and switch like you have. You would have been much better off sending an ad a day.

Freemium can't last for ever. These guys have developed a great product.

However, I was hoping to see the pricing reconsidered on launch.

It's never popular to go from free to paid with a service, but that's a reality for most startups. Advertising is not an option with email. We explored every possibility and this is the best way for our company to keep running the service at a very high level for customers.

@ joe - Pricing and features are always under consideration, but we feel great about it right now.

@ willemijns - We did provide more than three weeks' notice to all customers about the new version (http://www.brightwurks.com/blog/feed-my-inbox-20-launches-january-9/).

In addition, every account will either continue as a free account or gets a free 30-day trial with all their feeds and the new features.

Today we are experiencing a delay in emails, but that should be handled by Monday with the email queue back to normal.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

@tech reviews,

Yes, Feed My Inbox works on blogger and blogspot blogs. Are you trying to subscribe to a feed or add a signup form to your site? Either way, it's probably best that you email us an example to help(at)feedmyinbox.com. Thanks!
